X-Rays

Diagnostic x-rays are crucial to a complete exam.  We use digital technology and lead aprons to minimize your exposure to radiation.  Films are taken only when necessary to properly diagnose and detect dental problems.  There are several different types and sets of films that we use.

Bite Wings X-rays

At least once per year, bite wing xrays are taken to check bone levels around teeth and for trouble between teeth, and under existing dental work.  These are places we can't always see or feel.  The goal is to find and fix leaking restorations, decay, and gum disease before they cause you discomfort.

Periapical X-rays

A periapical x-ray, or "PA" is a single film most often taken as needed to check a specific area.  Unlike bitewing x-rays, a PA shows the entire tooth including the tip of the root.

Full Mouth Series

Occasionally, it may be necessary to take a full mouth series of x-rays.  This is simply a set of periapical films.

Panoramic

A Panoramic film requires a special machine, it takes a large x-ray of all the teeth, sinuses, and jaw.
